Mahindra Scorpio Clutch Plate Changing Process – Step by Step Guide

Hello everyone, welcome to Rajesh Technical Blog. Today I am going to explain how to change the clutch plate of Mahindra Scorpio step by step. This guide is written for beginners and DIY car lovers who want to understand the basic clutch replacement process of the Mahindra Scorpio SUV.

Required Tools and Parts

  • New Clutch Plate (Genuine Mahindra Scorpio compatible)
  • Pressure Plate (optional but recommended)
  • Release/Thrust Bearing (replace if worn)
  • Socket Wrench Set and Torque Wrench
  • Clutch Alignment Tool
  • Jack and Safety Stands
  • Screwdrivers and Spanners
  • Brake Cleaner or Degreaser
  • Grease and Clean Cloth

Safety Precautions

  1. Park the car on a flat, solid surface and apply the handbrake.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  3. Always use jack stands — never rely on the jack alone.
  4. Wear safety gloves and eye protection while working under the car.

Step-by-Step Clutch Plate Changing Process

Step 1: Preparation

  1. Keep the car in neutral gear and disconnect the battery.
  2. Clean the underbody and gearbox area before starting.
  3. Make sure all tools are properly arranged before you begin.

Step 2: Access the Transmission Area

  1. Remove the drive shaft, exhaust pipe, or any obstacle that blocks the gearbox.
  2. Support the gearbox using a jack.
  3. Remove the bolts that connect the gearbox to the engine carefully.
  4. Lower the gearbox slowly so you can see the clutch assembly and flywheel.

Step 3: Remove the Old Clutch Assembly

  1. Loosen the bolts of the pressure plate in a crisscross pattern to release pressure evenly.
  2. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc.
  3. Inspect the flywheel surface for cracks, grooves, or overheating marks.

Step 4: Check and Clean Components

  1. Inspect the release bearing and clutch fork — replace if worn or noisy.
  2. Clean the flywheel surface with brake cleaner or degreaser.
  3. Ensure no oil or grease touches the friction surface of the clutch.

Step 5: Install the New Clutch Plate

  1. Use the clutch alignment tool to center the new clutch disc on the flywheel.
  2. Position the new pressure plate over it and insert all bolts by hand.
  3. Tighten the bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern using a torque wrench (refer to manufacturer torque specs).

Step 6: Reinstall the Gearbox

  1. Lift the gearbox carefully and align it with the engine.
  2. Insert and tighten the gearbox mounting bolts properly.
  3. Reconnect the driveshaft, exhaust, and any sensors or cables you removed earlier.
  4. Bleed the clutch line if needed to remove air bubbles.

Step 7: Final Check and Test Drive

  1. Reconnect the battery terminal.
  2. Start the engine and press the clutch pedal several times — it should feel smooth and firm.
  3. Shift gears slowly and check for any slipping or unusual noise.
  4. Take a short test drive to confirm smooth clutch operation.

Important Tips

  • Always replace the clutch plate, pressure plate, and release bearing together for best performance.
  • Do not allow oil or grease on the clutch friction surface.
  • If you are not confident, take help from a professional mechanic.
  • Use only genuine Mahindra parts for long life and smooth performance.
