Hello friends, welcome to Rajesh Technical Blog!

Today I will tell you how to change your bike engine oil at the right time and in the right way. Many riders ignore this simple maintenance step, but it directly affects mileage, performance, and engine life. Let’s understand how to know the right oil change interval, what tools you need, and how to do it easily at home.

Why Engine Oil Change Is Important

Engine oil keeps the moving parts of the engine lubricated and cool. Over time, the oil becomes dirty due to dust, metal particles, and heat. When that happens, friction increases, mileage drops, and engine wear begins.

Changing engine oil at the correct time ensures your bike always performs smoothly, gives good mileage, and lasts longer.

How Often Should You Change Engine Oil?

For most bikes, the first oil change should be done after 750–1000 km, then every 2500–3000 km depending on your riding conditions.

If you ride daily in city traffic → change every 2500 km.

If you ride on highways or long routes → every 3000–3500 km is fine.

For BS6 bikes like Splendor Plus, Hero Glamour, or HF Deluxe, follow the company’s manual but don’t exceed 3000 km between oil changes.

Tip: Check the color of the oil. If it turns black or smells burnt, change it immediately.

Signs Your Bike Needs an Oil Change

Engine noise increases.

Gear shifting becomes harder.

Mileage starts dropping.

Engine feels hotter than usual.

You notice dark smoke or a burning smell.

If you see any of these signs, don’t delay — it’s time for an oil change.

Tools You Need for Changing Engine Oil

Before starting, collect these basic tools:

Wrench set (10mm or 12mm as per bike type)

Drain pan or small bowl

Funnel for refilling

Fresh engine oil (as per company grade, e.g., 10W30 or 10W40)

A clean cloth or tissue

Step-by-Step Guide to Change Engine Oil

1. Warm up the engine: Run the bike for 2–3 minutes. Warm oil drains faster.

2. Turn off engine and park the bike on main stand.

3. Open the drain bolt: Use wrench to open the bolt under the engine. Place a pan below to collect old oil

4. Let all oil drain completely: Wait 5–10 minutes. Tilt slightly if needed.

5. Clean the drain bolt and washer: Remove dirt or metal dust.

6. Tighten the bolt back properly. Don’t overtighten.

7. Open the oil filler cap and pour new oil: Use funnel to avoid spilling.

8. Check oil level with dipstick: Make sure it’s between minimum and maximum marks.

9. Start the engine and run for 1–2   minutes: Then recheck the level. Add a little if needed.

Now your bike is ready to run smoothly again!

Which Engine Oil Is Best for BS6 Bikes?

For Hero Splendor Plus BS6, use SAE 10W30 API SL, JASO MA2 grade engine oil.

Popular and reliable options include:

Hero Genuine Oil

Motul 3100 Gold

Castrol Power1 Ultimate

Shell Advance AX5

Always use company-recommended grade only. Wrong oil can reduce mileage and damage clutch plates.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Overfilling engine oil

Using cheap or duplicate oil

Not replacing oil filter (if your bike has one)
